Scholarship Description: The appointee will join an
innovative team focused on novel and sustainable biofuels and
bioproducts derived from macroalgae. The appointee will provide research
leadership within the macroalgal “production R&D” sub-program of
the Macroalgal Biofuels and Bioproducts projectan industry partnered
project with MBD Energy through the Advanced Manufacturing CRC. The
appointee will conduct and lead research in the area of algal production
and the selection and optimisation of high productivity, high value
species. This project has a significant innovation and commercialisation
focus. Applicants from diverse backgrounds with an interest in
innovation and a desire for applied outcomes are encouraged to apply.
The main objectives of the project are to: provide the scientific
blueprint for the development and production of high-energy biofuels and
valuable co-products from macroalgal biomass; demonstrate innovative
and efficient intensive culture of macroalgal (freshwater and marine)
biomass specifically optimised to produce biocrude as a base for
high-energy Biofuels; integrate macroalgal biomass into aquatic waste
streams and provide commercial and cost-effective bioremediation of
carbon, nutrients and metals.
