Description
Scholarship Description: The School of Earth and
Environmental Sciences is undertaking a study of gold mineralisation in
the Tanzanian craton in conjunction with a major mining company. The
project will assess regional and local controls on the distribution of
gold, and make mine to regional scale prospectivity analyses. The
project will involve geological mapping, core logging, petrography,
structural and metamorphic analysis, geochronology, geochemistry and
geophysics. The key requirements of this position will be mapping at
scales ranging from regional to outcrop, core logging, and integration
of geological data. The majority of time will be spent on fieldwork in
Tanzania, where the incumbent will represent JCU on the project team led
by the Mining Company’s Exploration Manager, with periodic visits to
Townsville for laboratory analysis and writing/presentation of results.
